Do-It-Yourself Spinal Decompression at Home

Spinal decompression helps relieve pressure on the spine, easing back pain and improving mobility. Here are a few "Old fashioned & Traditional" techniques to get some relief:

  • Foam Roller Stretch

  • Hanging Exercises (AMHC does not support this method due to its injury rate)

  • Child’s Pose Stretch

  • Pelvic Tilts (may be too strenuous for older folks)

These methods can ease mild to maybe moderate spinal discomfort. It is best to seek professional treatment and avoid any movement that causes sharp pain or numbness. If these symptoms persist, seek medical advice.

AMHC can teach you to use professional DIY techniques at home which are low cost, convenient, and as effective as you make them as your own coach.

The best DIY home method for spinal decompression is the AMHC DIY Home System.

AMHC will teach you to be your best coach.

See the AMHC blog post: AMHC's DIY Spinal Decompression: A Home Remedy

AMHC gives "free" explanations of home remedies,

in this blog post, in the Services section of this website and in person at our clinic.

In the Services section, AMHC gives simple instructions on how to solve the following six home problems:

  • Muscle cramps or spasms

  • Blood blisters

  • Burns

  • Splinters

  • Ant bites

  • Spider bites

In addition, we recommend Mold testing and the use of Honey at home. Keep your home air safe and clean, plus protect your body better.

  • An at-home Mold testing kit only costs about $12, but is priceless if you are able to rid your home of Black mold in the air, invisible yet leaves a slight musty smell. The kit will clearly ID the type of mold by matching the sporne growth photos on the Internet. Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, and Amazon cares the PRO-LAB Mold testing kit.

  • Local honey will strengthen your and your families immune system and if someone has a breathing problem, the propolis diffuser will significantly help that.

Build Isometrics Habits at Home:

Simple and Highly Effective Ways to Keep Fit

Isometrics: You hold a select position and have your muscles work internally against themselves to maintain the position. AMHC recommends 5 select isometric positions which will deliver the most benefit in a rather sort period of time. Each of the 5 positions will improve internal core stability, balance, strength and posture.

Starting out, hold each for a minimum of 30 seconds.

The key to success is to make sure you do these daily. The best time to incorporate these into your morning routine is just after your bathroom chores. If it is easier, just do one of these until it becomes much easier, then incorporate the others over time.

  • Bird Dog: Hands and knees on ground surface where one arm and the opposite leg are extended and held parallel to the floor. Point like a bird dog for 30 seconds.

  • Warrior: A standing posture held statically with one leg extended backward and the other leg bent in a lunge forward with both arms fully extended above your head. Ooh-rah !! as they say in the Marines.

  • Superman: Lie on your stomach and simultaneously lift your arms and legs off the floor, looks like Superman flying from the side view, but without the cape.

  • Wall Squat (Wall Sit): Hold a seated position with your back against a wall and knees bent at a 90-degree angle. Start high on the wall and only proceed to 90 if you can.

  • Side Plank: A core-strengthening exercise that involves holding a static position while balancing on the right forearm and the side of one foot, keeping the body in a straight line to engage the obliques and improve stability, and hold the left arm upwards. This position is the most difficult for those who can go there: The Side Plank with Arm Raise Then switch position to balance on the left forearm with holding the right arm upwards.

These are covered in professional detail in the Webinar section of this website, called:

Inclined Sleeping: Better Sleep, Goodbye Snoring, Boost Energy, Many advantages

Sleeping on your back at 15-20 degrees or "Inclined Bed Therapy (IBT)" can offer several potential advantages for sleep quality and overall health, particularly for individuals dealing with certain conditions.

Nervous System Problems: Adjustable beds, which allow for incline sleep and are highly recommended (in general), can help reduce pressure on nerves for individuals with conditions like multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, or cerebral palsy.

Wedge Pillows, Adjustable Beds or Creativity: You can achieve an inclined sleeping position (upper body as well as inclined legs) using wedge pillows, an adjustable bed (top & bottom) or find other creative incline methods.

Here's a breakdown of the reported benefits:

  • 1. Prevention or Relief from Acid Reflux and Heartburn: Sleeping with your upper body elevated allows gravity to help keep stomach contents down, minimizing the chance of acid flowing back into the esophagus. This can minimize or eliminate nighttime cough/problems caused by acid reflux.

  • 2. Improved Breathing and Reduced Snoring/Sleep Apnea: Helps keep the upper airway open, facilitating easier breathing, especially for individuals with nasal congestion or weak throat muscles. Snoring is mainly caused by a flat sleeping position that creates an airway obstruction due to collapsed throat muscles at zero degrees.

  • 3. Elevating the legs higher than the heart (20-25 degrees) helps drain fluid buildup in the feet, legs, and ankles, reducing swelling.  However, if you have toxins in your lower extremities, do not elevate your legs.

  • 4. Brain Detoxification: Sleeping on an incline will help facilitate the glymphatic system, which removes waste products from the brain during sleep.

  • 5. Inclined Bed (I.B.) Benefits for Specific Conditions:

    • Back Pain: Elevating the upper body and knees can help support the natural curve of the spine, relieving pressure and potential spasms, thereby reducing back pain.

    • Congestive Heart Failure: The inclined position helps reduce stress on the heart and lowers blood pressure by improved fluid circulation.

    • Glaucoma: Sleeping at an incline may help reduce pressure in the eye, which is a key factor in glaucoma progression.

Handling Snake Bites Safely

Snake bites require quick and calm action to reduce harm. First, it is best to identify the type of snake. In California, desert rattlesnakes and some coral snakes are poisonous and are common in desert areas. However, most snakes are not harmful, such as: king, gopher or grass snakes (usually round eyes and non-aggressive). If you are a family that goes hiking or camping, AMHC highly suggests that you purchase a snake bite kit, which is basically a sterile suction device. Online prices are from $10 (Walmart) to $18 (Amazon). TEMU does not carry this item.

  • Stay Calm and Immobilize

Keep the bitten limb still and lower than the heart to slow venom spread. Avoid running or

moving excessively.

  • Remove Tight Clothing and Jewelry

Swelling may occur, so loosen anything constricting the area.

  • Clean the Wound Gently

Use soap and water to clean the bite site, but do not apply ice or a tourniquet.

  • Avoid Cutting or Sucking the Wound

These "outdated" methods can cause more damage. A snake bite kit is the preferred

method of toxin extraction.

  • Seek Emergency Medical Help Immediately

Call emergency services or get to a hospital as soon as possible. If it is a very poisonous

snake, you have around 1 hour at the most to get help. For a poisonous spider bite, you

have about 4 hours to get help. Brown recuse & black widow spiders have multiple toxins

and are common in California.

AMHC has a Medical taser device to quickly detoxify poisonous spider bites.

Treating Cuts and Abrasions at Home

Minor cuts and abrasions can be managed effectively with simple steps:

  • Stop the Bleeding

Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth or bandage.

  • Clean the Wound

Rinse with clean water to remove dirt and debris. Avoid harsh chemicals.

  • Apply an Antiseptic

Use an over-the-counter antiseptic cream or ointment to prevent infection.

  • Cover with a Sterile Bandage

Change the dressing daily or if it becomes wet or dirty.

  • Watch for Signs of Infection

Redness, swelling, warmth, or pus may require professional medical attention.

Managing Broken Bones Before Medical Help Arrives

If you suspect a broken bone, follow these steps to reduce pain and prevent further injury:

  • Immobilize the Area

Use a splint or padding to keep the injured limb still. Avoid trying to realign the bone.

  • Elevate the Limb

Keep the injured part raised above heart level if possible.

  • Apply Cold Gel Packs

Apply cold gel packs (in preference to ice packs) to reduce swelling. This is your home

test to decide whether you have a broken/cracked bone. Only if the cold pack

dramatically reduces the swelling and pain, you can consider a "wait-and-see" strategy.

  • Otherwise, take no chances, assume it is broken. Seek Immediate Medical Care.   Get an X-ray to determine whether it is just cracked or broken & out of place.

  • See AMHC for professional "bone fusion" healing via PBMT (Photobiomodulation Therapy). For AI proof, search "does photobiomodulation work to heal cracked bones".

Responding to Choking Emergencies

Choking can be life-threatening and requires quick action:

  • Encourage Coughing

If the person can cough, let them try to clear the airway.

  • Perform Back Blows

Stand behind the person and deliver 5 firm blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.

  • Use Abdominal Thrusts (Heimlich Maneuver)

If back blows fail, stand behind the person, place your fist above their navel, and give quick upward thrusts.

  • Call Emergency Services if Needed

If the person becomes unconscious, immediately call for help and begin CPR if trained.

AMHC recommends that at least one family member learn CPR.

Helping Someone During a Seizure

Seizures can be frightening but knowing what to do helps keep the person safe:

  • Protect from Injury

Move nearby objects away to prevent harm.

  • Do Not Restrain Movements

Let the seizure run its course without holding the person down.

  • Place Something Soft Under the Head

Cushioning prevents head injury.

  • Turn the Person on Their Side

This helps keep the airway clear and prevents choking.

  • Time the Seizure

If it lasts longer than 5 minutes or repeats, seek emergency help.

  • Do Not Put Anything in the Mouth

This can cause choking or injury.

And the list of home remedies from a professional view goes on. As one ages, (s)he may find better ways to live with more science, more energy and simply more happiness. AMHC is here to assist you and your loved ones as you move forward achieving that goal.
